Rapper TI’s Jail Term Starts, Prison Rap Anthem Eminent?

What do you get when you try to buy black-market machine guns and silencers?

Prison.

Clifford J. Harris Jr., a.k.a. rapper T.I., is heading to Arkansas to begin his one year and one day sentence at the Forrest City low-security federal prison.

Harris pleaded guilty to charges that he tried to buy a stash of machine guns and silencers to protect himself after his best friend was slain. TI will also pay a $100,000 fine as a part of the sentence.

The rapper, know for “My Love,” “Whatever You Like,” and “Live Your Life” (featuring Rihanna) has a long criminal history. In 2003, rapper TI, Clifford Harris, was accused of assaulting a female sheriff’s deputy at a Florida shopping mall. He was detained by mall security guards in what his attorney called a “technical matter” between Georgia and Florida. According to rapper TI’s biography, he has, avoided jail time up until his recent arrest, he has done community service in Florida and Georgia.

Harris has done a lot of community work outside of his required community service. He has worked with victims of Hurricane Katrina, the Boys and Girls Club and has appeared at numerous benefit concerts.

His biography falls into a large gray area, like most famous figures. And a lot of parents have taken issue with his criminal history. They worry that their kids will continue to look up to him and may be influenced by his gangster image. Though most people agree that celebrities don’t really drive people to crime, they can bring vulnerable people to hang out with the wrong sort of people.

It’s not hard to fall in with some shady people when you have a common interest. Many parents are turning to a criminal record finder online to look up who their kids are cavorting with. Spotting an acquaintance with a criminal record can keep your kids from ending up like rapper TI’s friend.
